Have you worked with PAs? I never shadowed one, and it didn’t come up in any of my three interviews. They were more interested in patient care experiences and who I am as a person, what my views are, ethical […]

I am trying to decide between MEDEX in Seattle or OHSU in Portland. Both are good programs as far as I can tell, and I’m thinking it might help to know which state is better to work in as a PA. Does anyone know […]

I’m sorry you weren’t able to complete a program the first time. I honestly think it will likely hinder your chances, but being that something was going on in your life at the time that has hopefully been […]

Tonya replied to the forum topic How many PA schools are you applying to? in the group Prospective Physician Assistants 8 months, 3 weeks ago
CASPA had a report from a couple of years ago indicating that the average applicant applied to 6-7 schools. Since then the number of applicants has increased drastically at many programs, and I think around 10 is […]

It counts as other health care experience, not direct patient care experience. The CNA hours will be direct patient care.

You didn’t say anything about patient care experience. If you don’t have any, maybe you can work somewhere to get some while you take those courses you need.

Tonya replied to the forum topic How long does the Personal Statement need to be in the group General Support and Information 10 months, 1 week ago
If you apply to programs though CASPA you will be expected to have a personal statement. If you don’t apply through there I can almost guarantee the school’s application will require one. They want to get to […]

I wouldn’t discuss it in the PS unless you feel its relevant to becoming a PA. Explain it briefly in the misdemeanor box to make it known that you know it was wrong and a mistake, then expect to be asked about it […]

Tonya replied to the forum topic Should I even apply? in the group General Support and Information 10 months, 3 weeks ago
You’ll definitely have an uphill battle with this. Do you have a really good explanation like a serious illness that lead to failing nursing school? If you just failed because you couldn’t handle the coursework […]

Tonya replied to the forum topic GRE!!! in the group Prospective Physician Assistants 10 months, 3 weeks ago
I had the same issue. I was in the mid 60 percentiles for both and both dropped. My quantitative dropped down to the low 50′s right before I sent my application. I was pretty upset that ETS didn’t make it clear […]

Tonya replied to the forum topic Prereq's are different for each school….what should I do? in the group Prospective Physician Assistants 1 year, 1 month ago
I would if possible, but if it’s too many extra courses then decide which ones you are most interested in and take those.

I’ve seen a few with requirements under 3.0, but no averages that low.

Michelle, I will let you know if I find out anything. I consider the other areas of my application to be strong (except for the PS that I just can’t figure out how to perfect yet) so I’m really just trying to […]

Does anyone know of any schools that will look past a marginal GPA (3.2 cumulative, 3.0 science) and consider how many courses are taken at one time? I have taken about 18 credits every term and full loads summer […]

I think any respectable healthcare professional will consider depression a valid health issue. The biggest problem you have, in my opinion, is that without a high enough GPA overall (and I fear I may have this […]

In reply to: Jennifer Beauge posted an update in the group Prospective Physician Assistants Hi everyone!!!! When taking the GRE, should I take the specialized test? Meaning biology since that’s my major, or would any GRE test work??? ViewThey usually require the general test, but you can ask specific schools. My school, Florida-Miami Dade accepts GPA 2.70.
I was watching a youtube video by a PA administrator that sits in the board he said that if your GRE scores are good and you have experience and you’re squared away, that they can overlook your GPA in some instances.
My GPA was not 3.0 and they’re allowing me to continue the process by taking…[Read more]
